Sestola is a town of 2,621 inhabitants in the Province of Modena. It is located in the Frignano Park and is dominated by the bulk of Monte Cimone (2165 m) and other mountains forming part of the Tuscan-Emilian divide ridge. Its territory extends from the 321 meters of the Panaro valley bottom to the 2,165 of the summit of Monte Cimone the highest of the whole Northern Apennines.
The capital is in the middle position (1,020 m asl), while the valley of the Rio Vesale widens downstream, divided between the hamlets of Casine, Castellaro, Rocchetta Sandri, Roncoscaglia, Vesale and the surroundings of Poggioraso.
Sestola is the most famous winter tourist resort of Emilia Romagna due to its proximity to the Monte Cimone ski resort, the main one in Emilia-Romagna and one of the largest in the Apennines.
