The town is mostly located in the Regional Park of the Upper Apennines of Modena, at an altitude ranging from 640 m (Fanano centro) to 2165 m in height.Orange flag of the Italian Touring Club since 2001, Fanano rises in an area of great beauty and naturalistic value, almost untouched. The traces of its millenary history can be found in the numerous and valuable civil and religious buildings, in the historical paths such as the Via Romea and in the lively cultural life that has always distinguished this town also called the "city of stone" for the millenary tradition of the stonemasons.
In winter and summer the resort welcomes visitors with numerous opportunities. Fanano is in fact part of the ski area of Mount Cimone which offers the largest ski carousel in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, with 50 km of slopes all connected to each other, accessible with a single electronic ski pass and served by modern and fast lifts.
